Dr.Man Kwun Chiu

04 /Competition

Moving to get English Version

On the afternoon of May 11th, 2023, "Theories in games" by the Science and Technology Department of Wenzhou-Kean University, supported by the World Young Scientist π Community, was successfully held.

Talk1:Theories in games

The event kicked off with a lecture on research in games # Kwun Chiu, assistant professor of Computer Science, who joined WKU in the fall of 2022. Dr. Kwun Chiu worked in Japan and Germany after receiving his PhD from HKUST. He introduced his experience in many countries to the students and guests present. In addition, Dr. Chiu also introduced his research interests -- computational geometry and game design, and explained the principles of several types of computational geometry from this point.

Talk2:AIGC’s Application and Thinking

If the first part of Dr. Chiu's lecture is to guide students to think on the theoretical level, then Mr. Zhao Jiecheng, the head of Content Ecology Center of Hangzhou Wujie AI, will present the latest application of domestic AIGC to the participants. At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Zhao gave several pictures and asked the students to identify which one was artificial. The answers to the questions surprised everyone with the rapid development and powerful functions of AIGC. Mr. Zhao also explained the current situation and future development trend of AIGC, in order to open the minds of students, and also expressed his own opinion on the employment crisis of art design. At the end of the lecture, a large number of questions were raised by the students present. Mr. Zhao answered them one by one and expressed his sincere wishes for students’ future professional development.

Talk3:Mathematical card tricks

In this section, Dr. Chiu invited Dr. Tang to show the Mathematical card trick and explain the theory of the trick to everyone. He also invited student volunteers to test the theory and open the algorithm ideas of everyone.

Game Competitions: Snipperclips & SET

After a short break, the shape and color card (SET) competition was the last part of the activity. Dr. Chiu encouraged the students to complete the game combinatorial quiz and compete in random groups for the "top eight" and the winners of the game.

Through this activity, students gained a deeper knowledge and understanding of the mathematical principles behind the puzzles or games. They were able to develop their strategic thinking, problem solving and analytical skills more in the relaxed atmosphere of the game. Not only did they learn about the principles of computer geometry, but they were also inspired to explore the fascinating intersection of mathematics, computer science and games, and were inspired to explore their passion and imagination for AI creation in game-related fields.
