  • FAW's low carbon strategies for car powertrain

    • 摘要:

      The technological road maps of low carbon emission, using renewable fuels and electrification for car powertrains in FAW are presented. The planning for traditional gasoline engine to meet State III fuel consumption regulation through the technologies of GDI, turbocharged downsizing, EGR and start/stop etc, is expounded. The medium and long terms technological schemes for realizing low carbon emission through direct injection stratified charge combustion, HCCI and car dieselization technologies, the important sustainable development strategy of using renewable fuel for car powertrain with alterative fuels and the long term development strategy of car powertrain electrification are specifically illustrated.

  • Synergic effects of EGR and VNT on exhaust emissions from turbocharged diesel engine

    • 摘要:

      In order to reduce the exhaust emission from a 4-cylinder turbocharged automotive diesel engine, the synergy of the variable nozzle turbocharger (VNT) and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) was studied experimentally to reveal the effects of the VNT on the EGR driving pressure difference and the achievable EGR rate. The test results showed that the developed EGR system reduces the engine NOx emission by 20%-47% without the penalty on the engine power output, the fuel economy and the exhaust smoke. The EGR rate could be increased by 2%-12% through regulating the difference between the gas pressure before the VNT and the air pressure after the VNT by means of VNT adjustment.

  • Optimization design of vehicle yaw rate gain for steer-by-wire

      In order to study the variable steering ratio design of Steer-By-Wire (SBR) system, vehicle dynamic model and driver were built. A steady state control strategy for the steering ratio was designed to keep the vehicle yaw rate gain a constant. Under typical vehicle speed, the vehicle yaw rate gain was optimized by genetic algorithm and the steering ratio of SBW system was calculated. The optimization is based on driver-vehicle close-loop, and adopts comprehensive evaluation indexes of vehicle handling and stability, which include lateral trace error index, driver burden index, rollover rate index and slip rate index of vehicle gravity center. Test results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively improve the vehicle maneuverability and reduce the driver burden.

  • Control strategy for engine start-stop in hybrid electric vehicle

      A simulation model was built for the self-developed parallel hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) with dual clutch configuration using the software of powertrain system analysis toolkit (PSAT) with the forward-looking simulation approach. The model was used to perform the optimization simulation of the control strategy for the engine start-stop in HEV. The results showed that the optimal fuel economy can be realized when the engine start power is 10 kW/1200 r·min-1 and the engine stop power is 4 kW/800 r·min-1. Under these power settings, the engine and the integrated starter-generator (ISG) motor can collaborate well with each other, the operating mode switching of the powertrain is smooth. The vehicle tests validated the practicality of the developed control strategy.

  • Combustion system optimization of a gasoline direct injection engine

      With the purpose of optimizing the combustion system of a homogeneous charged gasoline direct injection engine, its working process was simulated with a 3-D CFD software package. The authors investigated the influence of injection timings and combustion chamber shapes on the charge motion, fuel injection and their influence on fuel-air mixture formation. With the comparisons of fuel-air mixture quality and combustion processes between two typical injection timings, the optimal injection strategy was chosen. To further improve the mixture quality, configuration on piston crown was optimized and analysis on mixture formation processes of the new configurations was made. Simulation results indicate that the new configurations have faster fuel evaporation rate and better mixture homogeneity.

  • On-line monitoring of high voltage system parameters in electric vehicle

      The monitoring of the key parameters in the high-voltage system, responsible for the safe operation of the electric vehicle, including those characterizing the insulation condition of the system, the connection of the power circuit, the performance of the high-voltage contacts, were discussed. The mathematical models for the monitoring method were explored theoretically and introduced to measure these parameters. They were also verified experimentally. Using these models an electronic unit, namely the diagnostic and high-voltage safety management unit was developed and its on-line judgement strategy was proposed.

  • Combustion characteristics of common rail diesel engine under high altitude (low pressure) conditions

      Full load characteristic of a common rail diesel engine after high altitude calibration was conducted via engine plateau environment simulating test bed. Effects of plateau ambient conditions (0-5 km) on low and high speed combustion characteristics were studied. Results show that the mean indicated effective pressure, maximum combustion pressure, maximum rate of pressure rise and peak heat release rate decrease with increasing the altitude at low speed, decreasing by 6.83%, 7.03%, 4.00% and 3.92% averagely and respectively for every 1 km altitude increasing. With increasing the altitude at low speed, the crank angles corresponding to maximum combustion pressure, peak heat release rate and gravity center of heat release keep almost constantly and the crank angle of maximum rate of pressure rise is retarded. Mean indicated effective pressure and peak heat release rate decrease with increasing the altitude at high speed, and they decrease by 2.59% and 2.00% respectively for every 1, km altitude increasing. With increasing the altitude at high speed, maximum combustion pressure shows little variation, maximum combustion temperature is increased, the crank angles corresponding to maximum combustion pressure, maximum combustion temperature and peak heat release rate are advanced. Combustion pressure oscillates at high altitude and high speed, leading to the increase of noise and mechanical load.

  • Design method and control optimization of an extended range electric vehicle

    • 摘要:

      Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) is a promising choice to overcome the limitation on the driving range of Electric Vehicle. However, its potential advantages extremely depend on the system design, especially the battery. This paper focuses on the component sizing of the energy and power of battery system, power design of R-Ext and the traction motor. The control strategy is discussed in this paper, and control parameters optimization of the EREV based on global optimization is implemented, aiming to minimizing the loss of power-train in view of prolonging battery life. A comparative analysis is given to assess the optimization results.

  • Experimental study on the performance of dimethyl ether engine

    • 摘要:

      The experimental studies on diesel engine fueled with dimethyl ether(DME)were conducted in the aspects of exhaust emissions, power and energy consumption. The results show that DME engine smoke emissions are very low. However, at the high load condition, the CO and HC emissions are very high due to the fuel/air mixing worsening. Supercharging can improve combustion, exhaust emissions and energy consumption of DME engine. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) can reduce NOx emission obviously, but at the high load and high EGR rate conditions, the combustion will be worsen. The combination of supercharging and EGR is beneficial to meet ultra-low emission regulation for the DME engine.
